Volunteer Recruitment

We are recruiting volunteers for the Belfast, Downpatrick and Lisburn area. These volunteer posts will be for the Mentoring Project.

Volunteer mentors will:

Complete MACS OCN accredited training in mentoring vulnerable young adults
Commit 3 to 4 hours per week for up to one year

Housing Residential May 2011

Housing staff and young people went on a trip overnight to Dublin in May. They started off early one Thursday morning and when they arrived they were upgraded to the penthouse apartment! They visited Dublin Zoo, however the Queen was in town and so the trip to the zoo was cut short but their trip to the Guinness Factory was made longer! After sampling some Guinness they set of for some fine dining and the food was enjoyed by all – mussels and steak all round! Then after some much needed forty winks breakfast was served – unfortunately not in bed! They made their way to the leprechaun museum where they had fun feeling like leprechauns! After their leprechaun fun they had more grub and then got the train back to Belfast – they all had an awesome time!

Organisational Day Out 5th of August

Our annual org day out took place on the 5th of August at Castlewellan Forest Park. Everyone took part in a scavenger hunt which included clues such as Joanna humming the A Team theme tune and tasks such as planking!! To finish off this great day we had a game of rounders and a BBQ which was enjoyed by all!!

Floating Support Residential

On the 10th – 12th of June 12 young people from the Floating Support Service went on a residential to Greenhill YMCA in Newcastle. We had lots of fun doing the nightline, bouldering and climbing wall activities, early morning rises were not so much fun.. for some!! All in all everyone including staff had a really great time!!

Down Arts Council Group

We would just like to congratulate Joe McMinn who won Learner of the Year Award in Understanding Business Enterprise. Joe was up against a lot of competition but came out on top.. Well done Joe from everyone at MACS!!

Young People’s Vision Day 16th of April 2011

Thank-you to all the young people who attended the Vision Day in April. Some really good ideas and feedback came out of this day which we aim to incorporate within MACS over the next year. We really appreciate your participation!!

EAGALA

Four staff and one young person attended the EAGALA training in Glouchestershire in April. They have sucessfully completed this training and we hope to have this up and running later in the year.. watch this space!!

The EAGALA model uses horses to enable emotional growth and learning. It is facilitated by an equnie specialist and a mental health professional working with the individuals and horses to address treatment goals.
